+ 54 - an Unusual High Mass X - ray Binary with a 9 . 6 Day Orbital Period but No Strong Pulsations Robin

Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer All-Sky Monitor observations of the X-ray source 4U2206+54, previously proposed to be a Be star system, show the X-ray flux to be modulated with a period of approximately 9.6 days. If the modulation is due to orbital variability then this would be one of the shortest orbital periods known for a Be star X-ray source. However, the X-ray luminosity is relatively modest ...

X 1908+075: an X-ray Binary with a 4.4 Day Period

X 1908+075 is an optically unidentified and highly absorbed X-ray source that appears in early surveys such as Uhuru, OSO-7, Ariel V, HEAO-1, and the EXOSAT Galactic Plane Survey. These surveys measured a source intensity in the range of 2–12 mCrab at 2–10 keV, and the position was localized to ∼ 0.5. We use the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) All Sky Monitor (ASM) to confirm our expectation...

The Orbital Period of the Ultracompact Low-mass X-ray Binary 4u 1543–624

We report the discovery of the orbital period of the ultracompact low-mass X-ray binary (LMXB) 4U 1543−624 using time-resolved optical photometry taken with the 6.5-m Clay (Magellan II) telescope in Chile. The light curve in the Sloan r band clearly shows a periodic, sinusoidal modulation at 18.2±0.1 min with a fractional semiamplitude of 8%, which we identify as the binary period. This is the ...

Super - orbital Period in the High Mass X - ray Binary 2 S 0114 + 650

We report the detection of a stable super-orbital period in the high-mass X-ray binary 2S 0114+650. Analyses of data from the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) All-Sky Monitor (ASM) from 1996 January 5 to 2004 August 25 reveal a super-orbital period of 30.7 ± 0.1 d, in addition to confirming the previously reported neutron star spin period of 2.7 h and the binary orbital period of 11.6 d. It i...

Discovery of a 115 Day Orbital Period in the Ultraluminous X-ray Source NGC 5408 X-1

We report the detection of a 115 day periodicity in SWIFT/XRT monitoring data from the ultraluminous X-ray source (ULX) NGC 5408 X-1. Our ongoing campaign samples its X-ray flux approximately twice weekly and has now achieved a temporal baseline of ti 485 days. Periodogram analysis reveals a significant periodicity with a period of 115.5 ± 4 days. The modulation is detected with a significance ...
